Curious Little Explorers

Here at Curious Little Explorers, we share a passion for nurturing young minds and a deep commitment to creating a vibrant learning community sparked our journey. We are a group of dedicated educators, united by our belief in the power of early childhood education to shape young lives and inspire a love of learning.

Our Inspiration

Curious Little Explorers was born from the shared vision of a group of experienced educators who recognised a need for a unique and nurturing approach to early childhood education within the Selwyn District. We were inspired by a desire to create a service that prioritised the well-being and development of every child, fostering a strong sense of community and connection to the natural world. Driven by our passion for creating a “village of care,” we sought to establish a home-based learning environment that embraced the principles of Te Whāriki, celebrating the individual needs and aspirations of all tamariki while fostering a sense of belonging within a vibrant community.

We envisioned a space where children could thrive, explore, and grow, inspired by the beauty and wonder of nature, and where a love for learning was nurtured through playful exploration and hands-on experiences. Our commitment to providing a truly individualised and engaging learning journey for each child, alongside a strong emphasis on building strong connections with families and the wider community, ultimately formed the foundation of Curious Little Explorers.

Our Guiding Principles

At Curious Little Explorers, our guiding principles are deeply rooted in our commitment to nurturing the “unfurling koru” within every child. These principles shape our daily practices and ensure a learning environment that fosters growth, connection, and a love for learning.

Aroha (Love):
  • We believe in creating a nurturing, secure space where each child feels loved, respected, and valued. Our educators radiate warmth and empathy, fostering a sense of belonging and trust.
Whanaungatanga (Connectedness):
  • Just as the koru spirals back to its roots, we value the strong connections between educators, whānau (family), and the wider community. We foster a supportive “village” where everyone feels a sense of belonging and support.
Curiosity:
  • Like the koru reaching for the sun, we encourage boundless curiosity, inspiring tamariki to explore their world with open minds and a thirst for knowledge. We cultivate a culture of wonder and inquiry, where questions are the seeds of lifelong learning.
Natural Exploration:
  •  Inspired by the koru’s connection to nature, we provide immersive spaces that foster a deep appreciation for Papatūānuku (Mother Earth) and ignite a passion for kaitiakitanga (guardianship). We believe that nature is our playground and encourage exploration, discovery, and respect for the environment.

Our Growth & Vision

Since our inception, Curious Little Explorers is embarking on a journey of growth and expansion, guided by our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality, nurturing early childhood education. We started with a small group of passionate educators and families, driven by a shared vision to create a unique and welcoming learning environment.

As our community has grown, so too has our service. We have expanded our network of home-based educators, welcoming new families and nurturing the development of each child within our care.
